It was another clear starry evening, with shooting
stars and satellites spotted. Unfortunately the wind dropped so we motored for
the majority of the night, meaning that not much was going on during the shifts.
So much so, Victoria and I decided to watch some Pulp Fiction on the iPad whilst
Sam sat watching stars with the helm on autopilot!
There was some brief rain this morning but it then
cleared to reveal another beautiful and sunny day. Sunbathing and book
reading was on the cards for most members of the crew. The wind has stayed at
about 8-10 knots for today, and as it has turned round to the north, so it was
the perfect opportunity to fly the spinnaker - which has been up for the whole
day.
Nick saw an opportunity to put out his lucky lure - with
the hope of catching some white fish - a request from the
galley! Sure enough, after lunch, the reel went
off and a fish was caught. To the joy of the boat, it wasn't another tuna but a
mahi-mahi fish which apparently can swim at up to 50mph - fast enough to
keep up with Valhalla's spinnaker! Shortly before the catch we had
thrown overboard some bits from lunch including garlic and onion, and quite
unbelievably whilst Yoyo was gutting and de-scaling the fish she found them it
in his mouth! It appears Mr mahi mahi was having a Valhalla last
supper before being hooked through the eye by Nick's lure! More great excitement
came a couple of hours later when the reel went again and Nick had caught
another mahi mahi, but this time slightly smaller. We are looking forward to
some more Yo-yoga tonight, followed by drinks and mahi-mahi - this is the
life!
