Annabella - Log 3 Thursday 28th

Position 22 09.697N
21 11.163W
Time: 14:30 GMT

Had 12 - 15 knots for most of yesterday evening and night from SW. Died off early this morning and we now have 2 knots of wind so making no progress. There were a number of yachts close to us during the night and managed to have a fairly close encounter with (we think) Windleblow. Radio traffic would suggest that some of the boats within VHF range are talking about going to the Cape Verdes to wait for the easterlies and fuel up. We would like to make some more progress in a SW direction to pick up the trade winds when they arrive.

We have been checking the stores looking for baddies and turning the eggs. Today seems to be the turning point as the fresh produce is beginning to deteriorate so today we had a fresh fruit salad for breakfast, mango & Avocado salsa with tomatoe and peppers salad with a few other ingredients thrown in for lunch. Craig will be making a faux thanks giving turkey for dinner with green beans and courgettes. We will need to catch a few fish for next week . Frozen meat holding up well and the fridge seems to be producing a bit of a chill to keep everything else in reasonable shape. No need to be concerned about supplies because we have ample in tinned form.

Stephen has entered the fray with a conservation kick and we are now using salt water for washing dishes, veg and such stuff. Final quick rinse is with tank water. After much debate the water maker seems to making an impression on the tanks so the plan is to keep it running until we are back up to full. We also plan to back fill the drinking water bottles directly from the water maker to keep our reserves up. I remember Claire (ARC) telling us to treat the water from the water maker as a bonus and now I know what she means. Shower? who mentioned showers? not going to happen any time soon I'm afraid.

Flying the big gennaker at the moment, but hardly enough wind to fill it. At this stage we are geared up to change sails at a moments (well perhaps an hours) notice to take advantage of any wind shifts that might come our way. We have the Main, Genoa, Gennaker and the twin head sails. Bring it on!

Still haven't used the sextant to plot our position, but I'm sure we'll get around to it.

Conor is busy practicing with the fishing rod, but nothing biting as yet.

That's it for today folks. We hope that the blog is getting through to everyone. We haven't had any feedback to confirm one way or the other.

Peter, Stephen, Conor, Craig and yours truly

Terry
