Golondrina - Wednesday

The past 24 hours has been a mixed bag of luck.  At first light we saw a sail ahead on the horizon and set that as an object as it appeared to be on the same course as ourselves, so with favourable winds and the spinnaker set we hunted her down and past her about 4 pm yesterday afternoon, which increased morale after a really hard night on Monday, involving the consumption on many "man up" pills!

But with bright sunshine and good winds, Gareth decided to turn SW and we ran all day and night with the spinnaker flying.   The warm winds from the coast of Africa meant the evening dress code was shorts and flip flops.. Plus the customary life jackets - so at least there was a sense of decision making.

So this morning our luck ran out and we entered the Azores high pressure where there is no wind and even with Dave and Mark’s valiant efforts to get some speed out of the boat it became impossible so we have turned through 90 degrees to try and pick up the trade winds which we have calculated are some 300 miles further south.  On the plus side the water maker is working properly now so we have fresh water in abundance... We still have a minor problem with the domestic batteries not fully charging and with thanks to the internet and Stu struggling to remember the difference between AC and DC voltage, we'll get there eventually.

In our group we've been told we're 11th which, for such a small boat is a great result.  The fishing has started today with our resident, part-time electrician, promising dinner for all ( yeah right !) .

So at 3pm UK time Wednesday 27th. 467 miles travelled : 2434 to go ...

The Skipper!
