Blue Dolphin - Day 3 '0n the boot'

The winds dropped dramatically during the night and the crew had to revert to engine power.  Carol spent a long time working out how many engine hours we could afford to use but agreed that we had to engine until at least we had a puff of wind (which turned out to be all night!)

Welcome entertainement was provided by StarBlazer who invited all boats in the vicinity to join him for a virtual happy hour.  At least 4 boats participated and the crew of BD enjoyed virtual G&Ts followed by a bottle of virtual Pinot Noir.  If they are still in range tonight they are going to order cocktails!!  They needed something to alleviate the detox headaches.

Sally rose to the challenge of the cook off by producing a fabulous Greek salad for lunch followed by Jamacian Ginger cake and then a very tasty pasta bake for supper.  Tomorrow is Skipper’s turn and she is already muttering about having too much responsibility to concentrate on cooking.

Meanwhile, on deck the crew rose to their 1st team challenge – flying the spinnaker.   They worked well as a team with Mike and Carol on foredeck and Kathy and Sally in the pit.  It went up and down without any drama but any racers would hve been appalled at the amount of time it took.  Still, they should get faster with practice.

Great excitement was followed by great anxiety as the water maker started for the  1st time and then stopped after about 10 mins.  Chief Engineer and Skipper pondered and poked for a while and then decided it was best to sleep on it (literally as it happens because it is under their bunk!)  An anxious night ahead.

BS.
