Shenanigan - 24 Nov We're off!

24.11.2013 Final emotional goodbyes were said on a bustling pontoon to Timmy, Phil, Jane, Colin, Amelia and other boats we had met during our time in Las Palmas.  We had a smooth but nerve racking start followed by a squall with rain for 1/2 hour, this was not pleasant for us or our watching supporters but the wind did get the fleet clear of the start line.  A good run to the south of the island hitting the acceleration zone around 3pm with winds increasing to 30 knots.  By 4pm the wind dropped as did our speed! and by 11pm the wind was a mere 3 knots! First night was spent bobbing (serious bobbing!) at sea and still in a huddled fleet with an interesting display, though not necessarily the traditional or correct, navigation lights! We made fairly slow progress during the night with full sails up.
