Challenger 3 - Departure day

ARC

Day 1

We prepped the boat from the start of the day, enjoying the last of the delights of Las Palmas. Crowds were gathering all morning, and we posed for a team photo. We slipped our mooring in the marina at 1100hrs to a bit of a fanfare, and cheers from the shore. We headed out to the inshore start line, between the Spanish Navy vessel and yellow marker for the 1245 start, in a lively Northerly breeze…over we went, and next stop St.Lucia 2700 nm

away!

As the afternoon progressed, the boats spread out and wind eased, leaving us sailing into the evening with a falling NNE force 3.We tried to avoid sailing too much into the wind shadow of Gran Caneria.  Watches began at 1800, and we quickly settled into our nightime routine-having a wonderful starlit night, and half moon. The wind by this time had left us, so we hope it will pick up tomorrow…?
