Golondrina - ARC BLOG

Golondrina slipped lines from Las Palmas at 11.37 on Sunday and made a good start to the race crossing as one of the front boats.  Within 10 minutes a squall hit the entire fleet and everyone started the journey got soaked.   Good progress was made and saw the last of Grand Canaria at about 10pm last night.  For the first 12 hours we maintained over 8 knots of speed due to the 28 knots of wind.  unfortunately, this not only dropped off dramatically but also changed direction which forced a sail change and gybe around midnight.  if your watching the yellowbrick track you may be wondering why we are travelling south toward Cape Verde.. this is because there is a weather front of no wind to the west of us and so our plan is to travel around the bottom of it and then start heading west for St Lucia. So far 140 miles done .... and awful lot more to go.
