Firefly - Light winds off Morocco

So far we have been very fortunate with the weather with winds higher than expected, unfortunately, now they are less than forecast down below 7 knots so this morning we resorted to the motor to keep on track. Neither was there much sun for our mid day sun sight making it somewhat of a challenge! However the resulting calculated latitude was very close to what the chartplotter recorded so clearly our astro navigation is improving.

These light winds give us a chance to catch up on some sleep and jobs either left on the list when we left Salcombe or new issues that need to be dealt with, most of these are down to Paul (whose head has been under the sink commissioning the water maker) but Murray and Peter now have diplomas in Gennaker furling and all the ships stores are fully recorded and labeled. Murray made a splendid spaghetti bolognese last night accompanied by a glass (small) of red wind.

The watermaker was on for several hours this morning and the drinking water tank is now topped up and confidence in the equipment is high in advance of the trans Atlantic. Yesterday we towed the Aquair generator for a good proportion of the day. It spins very fast resulting from the impeller that is towed 30 meters behind. Boat speed is not affected and there was some good charge going into the batteries - however as with most things on boats the battery monitor did want to acknowledge this new source of incoming power - another issue to ponder.

The wind picked up to about 10 knots over lunch and we are now sailing quite fast under Gennaker, the wind may be light but its from a good angle. After 48 hours at sea we are about half way to Lanzarote. Winds are not forecast to pick up until after the weekend so its likely we have more motoring to come but at least we are not beating across Biscay and the sun is now out.
