World ARC 2023-24 Starts the Year with Leg 15!

07 January 2024

Under a hot South African sun the World ARC 2023-24 Fleet set off from Cape Town signalling the start of Leg 15 and the beginning of their journey across the South Atlantic! This leg of their circumnavigation journey will take the fleet all the way to Salvador, Brazil, via Walvis Bay, Namibia and Jamestown, St Helena.

Today was an exciting start with eighteen boats taking the line. First across the line was the USA flagged, LOVER OF THE LIGHT, followed in quick succession by two of the Swedish boats, SARA OF SWEDEN and HOKA HEY. Whilst there were light winds on the start line, there is forecast to be plenty of wind on passage North to Namibia and again across the Atlantic. With plenty of ocean in front of them it is anyone’s game!

This week’s rendezvous in Cape Town allowed a timely regroup and an excellent start to 2024. Farewell drinks were hosted at La Parada bar and restaurant before yesterday’s skippers briefing.

With wind in their sails, we look forward to seeing the boats during their stopover in Namibia.
