The Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia threw
open its doors to the World ARC participants on Monday evening for a
reception hosted by Consul Harbangan Napitupulu. The schedule began
with the Consul speaking about some of the many cultural and tourism
highlights that are within easy reach of World ARC's hosted stopover in
the beautiful island of Bali. Komodo, with its famous dragons, Lombok
only a 2 hour ferry ride away, Jakarta a little over an hour by plane,
and so much more.
David Woodhouse, the man behind
the very successful Sail Indonesia rally (the second largest yachting
event in the Asian region), with an insiders knowledge of this part of
the world, offered a glowing and inspiring account of the destinations
on offer, and the friendly, welcoming people the crews will shortly be
meeting. Second Secretary at the Consulate, Arvinanto Soeriaatmadja,
made available brochures and tourism information, giving the sailors
additional food for thought, as well as spending time talking with the World ARC participants about Indonesia's diverse cultures and sight-seeing opportunities.

Traditional
Balinese dancers gave a display of their hypnotizing art-form,
accompanied by the sounds of gamelan. This was followed by a taste of
Indonesian food, and a chance to talk with the staff of the Consulate.
The evening certainly succeeded in exciting the crews about the next
destination of their circumnavigation sailing rally. Consul Harbangan
Napitupulu will also be the guest of honour for Wednesday's midday
start of the Darwin to Bali leg, which will take place off the
breakwater of the Royal Australian Naval base, HMAS Coonawarra. |
