Having now left the beautiful remoteness of Port Resolution in Tanna, the fleet have sailed North to the island of Efete where they are moored in Port Villa. The distance from Tanna to Port Villa is roughly 120Nm and the conditions for the leg were exciting. It was a gusty downwind passage with a large swell running causing a lot of motion however the wind was strong and powered the boats along.
Many yachts anchored off in Port Dylan overnight, a fairly sheltered anchorage about 50Nm north of Tanna. The village people were most friendly there and a feast was organised for visiting yachts along with a local band to supply the entertainment. Some gifts were exchanged before the boats departed again for Port Villa.
The fleet are now within the port and many are heading to the annual Horseracing day, an event not to missed according to every local in town. Some abseiling down a cascade will occupy some participants’ morning tomorrow before the farewell BBQ at the Anchor Inn, home of the Port Villa Cruising Yacht Club. We hope everyone enjoys their time here in Port Villa, an opportunity to provision, get any boat work completed before their next leg to Cairns, and some time to see what Vanuatu’s main city has to offer.
