Celebrate - Unexpected Anchoring & Odes to Passage on the way to St. Helena Island from Cape Town, South Africa!

Odes by Jay Ailworth

Cape Town is now in our past
Celebrate is leaving Table Mountain astern very fast.
Our boat heeling and heaving to a beam sea.
Deep dark Africa slipping away in our lee.
Auto Von Driver is at the helm on a day cool breezy and sunny
When from below the mate calls: "I smell something funny".
Auto Von Driver has rolled over and died
The apparent victim of electrical suicide.
A well found ship CELEBRATE has a spare
An island is up ahead and we will make repairs there.
Now steering by hand
We make our way to this tiny speck of land.
Behind a rocky windswept point lies a small
Sheltered bay
We will soon have our repairs underway.
Our anchor now safely down we take
A moment to look around.
Small buildings, a pier and a tall red and white Striped lighthouse are the only sights around.
Out of nowhere on our starboard side comes a mighty blow
A mother Humpback brings her baby along to see the show.
Cormorants, terns and African Penguins also dot the shore
Oh well it is now time to begin our chore.

Until nex time...

Charlie, Cathy & Jay
