Nexus - Still motoring..but the fishing is good!

Well, we had a brief period of wind and enjoyed an early afternoon sail, but now it's back to 3kts so we're motoring again. We're going through an area north of Western Australia in the Beagle Gulf, where there are numerous undersea mounts and several coral reefs and sand bars. Apparently this area used to be land before the last Ice Age melted, just like the Queensland coast inside the barrier reef. It is rife with strange currents, but also great fishing! We've caught 7 fish so far, and had two more get away at the transom. The keepers have been Northern Blue Fin Tuna, a small variation of what we would recognize as Yellow Fin Tuna but with less yellow and larger pectoral fins. They have great, tasty meat like Yellow Fin, we've eaten one already and two more are in the freezer. The rest have been the local variation of Skipjack Tuna, which is bloody and doesn't taste as nice, so we've been releasing them. They're still beautiful fish and fun to catch though!

We've also had fun experimenting with light wind sails this trip. This is the first time we've had the full main up with the full screecher on a reach, and we're delighted that we can nearly make wind speed on 10kts of true wind on the beam when the seas are flat. Fun Stuff! Tonight we are sailing into an area with numerous oil platforms and well heads, which will be interesting at night, and passing between the two big reefs sometime tomorrow, then hopefully the wind will be back and we'll have a spinnaker run to Bali! Who gets to do this?
