Webster - Log 20 - Flying!

Tuesday 10th December: Position 14 40N 42 34'W. Have had an excellent breeze all night and continued this morning and for most of the day. We put the kite up first thing and carried until after lunch when the wind came a bit shy for our compass course 284 degrees (267 T). Good job as I noticed that in the 20 knt breeze the spinnaker deck fittings had started to pull out which would have been a big problem should they have done so. Nothing that a bit of string can't fix and we are not short of string on this boat! Blocks are now lashed to the aft cleats and they are not about to go anywhere. Roll on tomorrow when we can set it again - we were really flying with it today, we just need some big seas to surf down and we will start hitting the big numbers. Our noon to noon mileage today was 182nm, all very pleased with that.

Crew now looking much more optimistic about actually getting there in a reasonable time frame. As we remain a "dry" boat speed is of the essence as there are a few needy livers on board and a lot of cold turkey, well vacuum packed chicken at any rate.

Have been averaging over 7 knts overnight again with two reefs in the main and a boomed out genoa. Long may it continue.
