The three day Atlantic Circuit Seminar will take place from 1330 on Friday 29 February to 1600 on Sunday 2nd March 2008. It covers in depth, a variety of subjects associated with the planning and preparation required for an Atlantic Circuit. Lecturers have been chosen for their wealth of knowledge in their specialist fields. Special emphasis will be on the ARC and what to expect in terms of weather and equipment issues. A number of the lecturers have sailed in the ARC and will draw on their experience from their participation in the event.

Amongst the subjects to be covered are:

Communications equipment update, including DSC/GMDSS, Sat-Coms
SSB Installation and usage
ARC communications and position reporting
Rigging preparation and maintenance; sail choice
Onboard safety equipment; choosing and using
AC/DC Power management and generation
Choosing and running a watermaker
Wind self-steering systems explained
First aid at sea; techniques and medical supplies
Refitting for the Atlantic circuit
Spares and maintenance on board
Provisioning for offshore cruising
Weather Forecasts - sources & interpretation
Heavy weather sailing techniques
Choosing the right Insurance

As well as the opportunity to ask questions at the end of each lecture, there will be a question and answer forum discussion with a panel of lecturers each day. It is hoped that in this way topics not covered by the lecturers can be brought up and discussed.

The Holiday Inn in Guildford will be the venue for the seminar. Situated on the A3 the Hotel is easily found. For those arriving by train the main station is close by and well served by buses and taxis.

One of the additional benefits of the seminar is to meet fellow delegates, many of whom have similar sailing ambitions and plans. There will be a three-course dinner on the Saturday evening for delegates to meet one another.
