Moonstream - Oeiras to Sines to Lagos

Starship Moonstream: Oeiras to Sines to Lagos

Oeiras to Sines was a sunny, gentle 50 nm sail, which saw us relaxing and catching those sun beams.  We left at 10.30 with all the boats going over the start line together and arriving in Sines in time to enjoy a very jolly marina with coffee bars and good restaurants.

Im writing this at sea!  We left Sines this morning going over the start line at 06.04 which meant another early up at 05.00.  There has been no wind since we started and we have been motoring  for 7 hours.  Yesterday in Sines, which is a small village, I couldn’t find any Wifi and the yacht club, our hosts, didn’t have one – so that was that!!   Tonight in Lagos there should be plenty of Wifi´s to send this.

While I have written the last paragraph the land sea breeze has confirmed itself at about 8 knots and we now have enough wind to up the sails.  Our trip to day is 75 nm.  We now have Cape Vincent on our port bow one and a half hours away so we will, thank goodness be able to sail round this memorable cape -anything else and we would not be doing justice to Lord Nelson.  Traditionally we have to dip our ensign as we round it because here Nelson died in the Battle of Trafalgar.

Wow……since writing this the wind went from 8 knots up to 30 knots in about 20 minutes and we rollicked along to Cape St Vincent with cameras snapping all the way, despite shipping a few waves.  We dipped our ensign to dear ole Nelson and saluted him to our caps.

Having rounded the cape we are now at the end of the southerly route to the bottom of Portugal which we have followed from Baiona and are now heading East North East for 18 miles to finish in Lagos by 19.30.
