American Spirit II - Day 172; Fiji Golf Day; Thursday, June 26, 2014

Up 7:00 AM. Breakfast, then met our driver, an Indian named Naudi, for a trip to the Nadi Airport Golf Course at 9:30 AM.

When we got to the golf course, it was closed. So Naudi took us to a 9 hole par 3 course called Novotel Nadi Golf Course. For Joel and I to play cost us 88 Fiji dollars, or about $44.00 US. Green fees were 15 F$ each; one set of rental clubs 15 F$; trolley rental 10 F$; and balls 30 F$ for a total cost of 85 F$. I thought the trolley rental was for an electric golf cart. It wasn't. It was for a pull cart. Joel hadn't played golf in 30 years or longer. At any rate, it was a fun day. Besides us, there were only two other golfers on the course. All the holes were par 3's except 1, a par 4. However, two of the par 3's were quite long - 180 and 191 yards. And there were lots of trees and deep grass in play. The greens were very small, about 1/4 the size of those in the US; and the putting surfaces were not pristine. The grass on the greens was taller than fairway grass back home. How'd we do? Joel shot a 48 and I shot a 37. Par was 28. My best shot of the day was holing out from off the green on one of the holes, for a bogey. Joel was so thrilled to be playing he said that whey he gets home he'll take up golf again. Look out Tiger!

After golf we ate lunch at the hotel that owned the golf course. Our driver picked us up at about 1:30 PM; and on the way back to the boat we stopped at 2 supermarkets to buy 3 cases of coke and 2 cases of beer. We arrived back at the boat at 2:45 PM. Between 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM we both napped. I had a can of spaghetti for dinner; Joel took a pass. We went into a restaurant in the marina to use their Wifi from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM. We also sent 3 more pictures to our boat's web page.

Back at the boat at 11:00 PM, Joel went to bed while I read and stayed up until 1:30 AM running the generator to charge the boat's batteries.
