ARC Baltic 2015

The inaugural ARC Baltic rally set sail last July, increasing the range of sailing destinations and experiences that World Cruising Club offer. The rally sailed to six countries visiting eleven destinations in six weeks, with highlights including Tallinn, Saint Petersburg, Helsinki, Stockholm and the stunning Finnish and Swedish archipelagos. Now, looking forward to 2015, ARC Baltic planning is well underway!

Since the announcement in September that entries are open for ARC Baltic 2015, 17 yachts have taken the plunge to cruise the Baltic Sea together next summer. As always, sailing attracts a diverse range of yachts, and 2015 is no exception. Entrants so far include monohulls, multihulls and a motorboat ranging from 12 to 21 meters.

Taking into account feedback from the 2014 participants and the experience gained from the rally last summer, the route for ARC Baltic 2015 has modifies. The revised itinerary focuses on the second half of the rally from Saint Petersburg, Russia to Kalmar, Sweden. Incorporating more time in both the Finnish and Swedish archipelagos, the revision provides for a slower sail west, experiencing more of the secluded anchorages found through the islands.

“Spent the rest of Monday and Tuesday winding our way through the stunning Finnish Archipelago. Thousands of islands, many with a wooden holiday home, jetty and flagpole, and many more totally uninhabited.” – John & Sue, Jumbuck

The Swedish port of Kalmar will be the final stopover of the 2015 rally, which boasts an impressive renaissance castle.

Kalmar offers skippers and crew far more options including a full service marina with good layup facilities, easy airport links and a town that has all the necessary amenities. However, possibly more attractive is that Kalmar is an ideal location for continuing the Baltic season whether it’s the same year or the next, only a day sail away from the Swedish archipelago. For yachts intending to sail out of the Baltic, the onward journey will still leave plentiful for exploration, including the Danish islands.

With entry numbers limited, the New Year is likely to comprise of the final fleet who will depart Kiel, Germany next July for what promises to be a great second edition of ARC Baltic.

“Thank you World Cruising Club for arranging the ARC Baltic Rally! And even greater thank you to the rally team who has made it possible for so many to experience sailing in Scandinavia. Without their commitment and willingness to help it would have been much harder for many of us to have time to enjoy the stops.” – Tommy & Annita – Tomanita II
