Just following up on this post by Alanna, who works for Te Ipukarea Society. We are an environmental ngo in the Cook Islands, and we are planning a trip to Suwarrow to eradicate rats on this important bird breeding atoll. Our planned vessel is having difficulties. Is there any boat with room for 3 or 4 passengers going from Rarotonga to Suwarrow, and then on to Samoa or elsewhere, that could transport us and wait 2 weeks while we do our work? We have money to pay Just putting out feelers at present for a trip in early September this year.
Thanks,

Kelvin

Completed ARC in 2015, the 4th Oyster and 34th overall in the cruising class. We have just returned back to Europe after a 16300nm Atlantic Circuit and no longer require the unrivaled ocean going capabilities of this yacht. We would happily consider a part exchange for a smaller boat, this made the trip possible when we purchased the boat. For a more detailed description, she is listed at http://www.ybw.com/boats-for-sale/6308482 . If you require any further details or just a chat about the boat, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are currently in Portugal but will be moving into the Med later in the summer.

Iridium 9555 satphone

I am selling my excellent Iridium satphone, model 9555 with the following attachments, as I have completed my transatlantic sailing trip and do not plan to do another for a while.

Mains charger
12v cigarette socket charger
External aerial, see attached.
3 small docking brackets, one still in it's wrapping
Instruction manual
Earpiece

The whole package new would be over £1100.00 and since it is not new I want to recover a minimum of 50% hence the minimum I would accept is £500
I would prefer to meet the buyer in either central London (work) or home Eversley, near Camberley, or if that is difficult, pack it up to be sent if you pay the courier charge. I would not recommend sending by normal post at this value and the parts are delicate, hence why I would prefer "buyer collect".
The items are listed on e bay also

This Cobham Sailor Inmarsat Model number: TT3739A was fitted to my boat by a professional marine electrician last October before the 2016 transatlantic crossing with the ARC, after it had been used only for a few months by a previous owner. It proved excellent for weather download and telephone communication and so much faster. Voice calls were vastly clearer and quicker than the iridium I carried on board at the same time and used for previous long distance offshore sailing trips.
The Fleet performance is far superior than other communication systems.
I am selling a virtually unused Satphone system for I have no current plans to do more distance sailing over the next two or three years.
I would accept offers in the region of £2500
Buyer collect from either Central London W1G9PH or Eversley RG270NG

South of Spain to West of Greece

I'm Hans and sailing, with my 2-man crew, on a Colvic Victor 3 m/s "Zephyr"

At the moment I am in Almerimar, South of Spain and on my way to Pylos, Peloponese, Greece

I want to find out what routing to take to get in Greece.

Zephyr does not sail closed hault very well, tacks on about 130 degrees. This is partly based on the design I suppose and partly on the bad shape of the sails, as they are pretty old. I bought the boat as a renovation project which I will work on in Greece.

On engine (Yanmar 50Hp) she does well, even in a wavy environment, running about 5,5-6kts on 1.600 RPM, using 2Ltr/hr. Tank capacity is 125Ltr + 40Ltr in jerrycans. So, 70hrs (with safety margin) is realistic, even against 5Bft.

When I look at the weather for the coming period the wind is mostly coming from easterly directions, exactly the wrong one for me.

I don't mind to do coast hopping nor sailing the whole stredge in one, I simply have no idea when and how to get out of this hole and therefore ask your advice.

For now I could wait a few days and hop to Cartagena, but then ..... am I stuck there for some days? I also have to consider my budget, here in Almerimar I pay 22€, Cartagena is almost double. Being retired means limited resources

So, I rather wait here (A) than there (C) or on the Balearics, which are even more expensive.

But this should not be the biggest concern, getting in Pylos is my main goal. Actually getting past Sardinia is the first goal, as from there winds are more often from westerly directions.

Hope to hear from any fellow sailor soon.

Regards, Hans
