Hi there. We have being using Raymarine Lighthouse for Sa and halfway up Mozambique to Ilas Premersa. Now we have run out of navigation for our chartplotter. We do have open-cpn on one phone and laptop and Navoinics Africa Asia on another. What do you surgest we buy for the rest of our trip for our chart plotter. The Lighthouse is very good but we want to go to Zanzibar and surroundings moving down in 2018 to Madagasgar. Thereafter we would like to move up to Maldives and over to the east. We do not find a lighthouse program covering all these areas and they are pretty expencive to buy . Can you please advise on which you find to work the best.

No I don't I'm afraid - but it will be in Jimmy's book. I think it's also discussed in some other reports on that page link I gave you. Perhaps someone else on the forum can give advice on that?

Thanks so much Sue for taking the time to respond. Do you know roughly timing of sailing from Line Islands to Panama - would you go as South to Galapagos first?

Thanks again,

Rebecca

Hi Rebecca,

An extract from one of the reports by Jimmy Cornell on noonsite's Pacific routing page - http://www.noonsite.com/General/Routing/PacificCrossing

If you want to sail east from New Zealand you do have the traditional route in the Roaring Forties. Such a route would take you past Cape Horn and into the Atlantic. If you prefer warmer waters and want to make for Panama, you can sail east as far as Tahiti (I describe this route in my book) then continue north towards the Line islands and east just north of the equator, ideally taking advantage of the equatorial counter-current...but you'll need a lot of fuel to make progress in the light winds.

There are other reports there that will be probably be of use too.

Do let us know how you get on (editor@noonsite.com)

We have just started our research on sailing from Sydney to the Mediterranean, I have read the World Voyage Planner as first steps but need some advice on routing from Tahiti and best way (safest and fastest route) to Panama. We have no time restriction as we want to ensure we only sail during safe periods. Any suggestions or recommended reading would be most welcome. Has anyone travelled West to East through the Trans-Pacific?

Hi Margie,

Suggest you contact Des Cason. He lives in SA and is an experienced cruiser, now land based doing alot of weather routing for various rallies and cruising boats etc. simply for the love of it. He's more than happy for you to get in touch - he said

I have always used ZYGRIB (free download) and over 10-12 yrs proved pretty accurate up to 5 days. They can contact me on my email and will gladly assist with f/casts and general sailing tactics going up the Moz coast and channel.

Parasailor 169 sqm. and snuffer for sale as it will not fit my new boat.

The sail is white with Orange and Grey panels and as a rough guide is suitable for a yacht of 40-55ft.

The sail is in the UK and in very good condition with maker's 'cruising bag' that allows the sail to be compressed for storage.

A great asset to downwind cruising. I believe new cost is over £9,000 and I am asking £3,750 ono.

Just following up on this post by Alanna, who works for Te Ipukarea Society. We are an environmental ngo in the Cook Islands, and we are planning a trip to Suwarrow to eradicate rats on this important bird breeding atoll. Our planned vessel is having difficulties. Is there any boat with room for 3 or 4 passengers going from Rarotonga to Suwarrow, and then on to Samoa or elsewhere, that could transport us and wait 2 weeks while we do our work? We have money to pay Just putting out feelers at present for a trip in early September this year.
Thanks,
