Today officially marks the start of a new tradition at the Caribbean 1500, that of 'Movember.' In an effort to raise awareness for men's health, in particular prostate and testicular cancer, the guys at Nanny Cay in Tortola started participating in Movember last year, and have encouraged the fleet do so this year.
"Movember is definitely on!" wrote Nanny Cay's manager Miles Sutherland in an email to Rally staff earlier this week. "Brendan [the dockmaster] is on the board, so send him a photo of anyone clean shaven on November 1st who wants to be a part of it. Encourage all the male 1500ers!"
Thus far we've heard from several rally crew who have signed up to stand in solidarity and grow their mustaches! Event manager Andy Schell is onboard as well, but is only cautiously optimistic about the outcome.
"I'm going to look absolutely ridiculous," Andy admitted. "But it's for a good cause and it should be great fun in Nanny Cay, so what the heck!"

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in the US and around the world. With their Mo's, these men raise vital awareness and funds for men's health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives.
Men start Movember 1st clean shaven. For the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo-growing efforts.
Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November. Through their actions and words they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.
