American Spirit II - Day 456; We Go to the Marina Pool & Have a Scenic Dinner; Tuesday, April 7, 2015

One year ago today:

"Day 94; Giant Meteor at 4:00 AM, Arrived Ahe in the Tuomotos, Running the Pass, and Anchor Chain Problem; Monday, April 7, 2014. At 12:15 AM Joel and I decided to power up the motor so we could get to Ahe as close to noon as possible. With high tide at 12:01 PM, we needed to get to the pass into Ahe by 1:01 PM. One of our pilot books, Charlie's Charts of Polynesia, stated that slack water occurred 1 hour after low and high tide. So even though we had a good wind to sail with, we needed to make more speed if we wanted to reach our destination in time. If we did not get to Ahe by mid afternoon, we would have to wait until Tuesday morning to enter the pass during the low tide, or skip Ahe altogether and head to Rangiroa 90 miles away. A boat sailing with us, Follie a Deux, decided to do just that. Skip Ahe and sail directly to Rangiroa because they could not make the daylight entry into Ahe."

Up at 7:00 AM. Joel and Darlene get up at 8:15 AM.

Breakfast is at 9:05 AM and consists of bacon, 3 eggs, potato and chilled fruit cocktail.

At 9:50 AM we pour 5 gallons of gas borrowed from Nexus into our rental car's gas tank. We were driving on fumes. Then at 10:30 AM we help move Nexus to another spot on the dock.

At 11:00 AM Joel, Darlene, Laurie from Nexus and I go to the local supermarket and to a gas station to get regular and diesel gas. We fill the car with gas; fill up the 2 small jerry cans we borrowed from Nexus with regular gas; and fill up 5 jerry cans with diesel. The gas station attendant fills our gasoline jerry cans too full. When we put the nozzles back in them gas pours out. A lot. We're back at the boat at 12:46 PM.

We go to the elegant marina pool at 3:45 PM. Its on the second floor outside overlooking the marina; and has a waterfall from above into it and from it to an area below the pool. Very nice. We're back at the boat at 5:25 PM.

At 6:20 PM we go to a restaurant on a hill overlooking the marina. Its Joel, Darlene, and myself from American Spirit II and Russ, Laurie and Eric from Nexus. The food is good, the prices are less than the restaurants at our marina and the view is to die for. I have banana flambe for dessert and am surprised the fire department isn't called by the size of the flames coming up off my dessert plate. That must have been some strong rum! We're back at the boat around 9:00 PM.

Once on the boat again, we're all in the cockpit reading or playing solitaire (Joel). In bed between 10:00 PM and 11:00 PM.
