Purrr-fect - Leg Two- day 6: research for marine microplastics

We attended a workshop with ARC for research being done in the area of ocean conservation due to the problem of marine micro plastics. Boats and crew were asked to participate in the research by collecting bottles of seawater along our voyage. We were given 6 bottles with labels and directions on the protocol for collecting the seawater samples.

We collected 2 bottles enroute from Las Palmas and have done 1 more so far on this leg. All of these sample bottles will be shipped to a lab in the US for analysis when we reach St Lucia. We are pleased to be able to participate in this important research intended to help conserve the ocean and marine life. More information is available at [email protected]

Today we kept the double headsail rig up all day and made good progress directly toward the great circle route. The winds were steady so we all caught up on sleep which was welcome after the past two nights and days with numerous sail changes and gibes. The crescent moon is so bright tonight that we can easily see the "dark side of the moon" as well. Hopefully the moon will stay up to help our night watch. Nothing is quite so welcome as a moonlit night at sea.
