Nexus - Great sailing to Vanuatu!

Two days into it now, we've had variable but good sailing winds and moderate seas on our way from Fiji to Tanna Vanuatu. We left in the afternoon on July 4 with choppy confused seas coming from two directions and 15-20kts of wind 60 degrees off our nose, which made for a bumpy but fast close hauled ride into the waves. Under single reefed main and double reefed jib we made 9.5kts over the first 12 hours, then slowed with the wind to 7-8kts later in the day. The waves have smoothed out and the wind eased and swung to our aft quarter, so we put the Gennaker out for the second day of sailing under partly cloudy skies. Its been good trade wind sailing since then, and we anticipate arriving at Tanna Vanuatu in the early hours of Monday morning. As sailing luck would have it, both of our primary and backup depth sounders have gone on the blink, so we're debating about standing off until daylight or running in to anchor in the dark with our dingy ahead of us (with it's newly installed depth sounder...better to be lucky than smart sometimes!) The anchorage at Port Resolution looks pretty straight forward and we have some good waypoints, so I think we'll go in the dark at this point as I understand the water is murky from the volcano and you can't see the bottom anyway. We're VERY excited about touring the active volcano on horseback later this week, as it may be the highlight of our voyage!
