ARC Europe hots up!

There is only just under a month to go until the start of ARC Europe 2014 and there has been plenty of activity on the entry list.  Unfortunately a couple of boats have had to withdraw with intentions of staying another year in the Caribbean before returning, can’t really blame them for that!  However the good news is that since our last update there have been several new entries bringing the total now up to 35 boats entered.

New entries have come from recent ARC and ARC+ participants as well as boats joining a World Cruising Club rally for the first time so welcome to:

Anna Sophia, Ballytrim, Bonnie Lass, Duck, Easy Rider, Gertha 4, Puerki, Starship, Tosca & Voila.

The number of catamarans taking part has increased now to 5 which will provide a little friendly competition for them.  With the likes of a Malisi, an Outremer 64, and Tosca, a Moxie 61, we may see some quick crossing times.

It’s great to be reading some log books from boats sending in reports as they approach the start.  Some are enjoying the lime as they cruise the Caribbean islands north toward the BVI and Happy Destiny wrote about their overland trip from Texas to the start in Virginia.  We expect to be reading plenty more log books once the boats are at sea and it’s a great way for them to share what life at sea is like on the Atlantic crossing.

A reminder that the programme of events for ARC Europe 2014 starts when the rally offices open, which is on 28 April in Nanny Cay and on 30 April in Portsmouth, VA.  The rally website will be updated regularly so look for daily news stories, plenty of photos going up into the gallery, facebook updates, read the log books coming in from the boats at sea and follow their progress using the fleet viewer.
