A new start port for ARC Baltic!

The New Year countdown to ARC Baltic 2015 is well underway with just over five months left before the start of the second edition of the rally. With this in mind, the World Cruising Club are pleased to announce Yachthafen Hohe Düne, Rostock as the new start port for ARC Baltic 2015.

Yachthafen Hohe Düne are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year with history of being the first five star marina on the Baltic coast of Germany. The impressive 750 berth full service marina is located in the northern district of Rostock at the mouth of the River Warnow.

Ideally positioned for the start of the rally, departing Hohe Düne creates a shorter first passage of approximately 110 nautical miles to the rally’s first destination, Rønne on the Danish island of Bornholm. Following experience and participant feedback from the inaugural rally last summer, the new route for Leg 1 is likely to reduce the chance of an upwind sail, allowing participants to ease their way into rally life.

For many, departing Rostock will be the first time sailing with a fleet, undoubtedly a benefit and key attraction of ARC Baltic. After making landfall and exploring the rich history that Bornholm has to offer, crews will sail east, mooring in the beautiful Swedish town of Visby on Gotland, anchoring off the remote island of Gotska Sandön and cruising to the medieval Estonian capital Tallinn before reaching the impressive former imperial capital of Russia, St Petersburg.

With all ports of call confirmed, the 19 yachts currently entered and their associated crews have a period of preparation ahead of them prior to the rally start in July. Preparation levels vary including the Thornton’s and Wade’s who own Shamwari and Blonde Moment II. Both Halberg Rassys 48s are on the construction line in Ellos, Sweden before setting sail on their maiden voyage to the start of ARC Baltic. Hear the Thornton’s and Wade’s story soon in an upcoming news story.
