Luna Quest - Sunday, July 5th, 2015

Noon Position: 18.42S 173.21E

Daily run: 115 measured miles

Our wish yesterday for a little more wind was soon fulfilled. The sky overcast quite rapidly in the afternoon with a mass of heavy rain clouds straight ahead of us. No sooner had we reached these, than a wind sprang up first from the SW, but rapidly changing to the South with 20 knots. We were romping along at 7 knots of speed and all night the wind held from the South. Our noon position leaves us no more than 225 miles to go, which calls for careful planning so as not to arrive in the dark on Tuesday morning. Port Resolution is a grand name for an inlet on the east coast of Tanna island that is not on any recognised chart. We have to make do with coordinates that Rally Control have given us, but comparing these with our chart plotter, would put us over the land, so eyeball navigation will be of paramount importance. Whereas yesterday started with a clear sky and a hot sun, today is the opposite with a densely overcast sky, rain from time to time and fresh breezes varying between 15 and 20 knots.
