Dala - DAY LOG 3 - Speed and problems

Hi All,

Since we left Nanny Cay, about 23 hours after all the fleet, we've been running nicely, averaging 9.2 Knots for the first 24 hours and 8.7 Knots for the second 24 hours. So as we are in our third day (fourth day for the rest of the fleet) cruising toward the Bermudas, we already passed the mid-point of our route. So, speed is OK so far.

We had other problems however. A friend of mine once told me that on a saiboat everyday brings with him another problem. The first day we had a fuel leak on the port tank and had to "dive" out there under the port aft bunk to find our its origin and fix it. Altough most of the job was done by my crew Richard (thanks, Richard!)I was caught by sea sickness in a way I didn't experience for months! It took me about 36 hours to recover!

The next day, as forecasted by my above mentioned friend, brought his own problem: We caught a strong squall and the wind found its way into our Code zero sail in spite of the fact that this sail was apparently properly and tightly rolled in. And a brutal and noisy flogging started. Of course this happened during the watch of my lovely Lady Joelle while Richard and myself were taking a rest in our bunks. At Joelle's shouts we jumped out, folded the genoa, straightened the main. Then we had to do the tough job: While Joelle was releasing the Code zero halyard, Richard and myself were fighting with our arms and throwing our whole bodies on the Code zero sail to take it down and stop it from badly flogging and possibly disintegrate. After some moments of tension and anxiety, that was done. Ouf!

Today, as of now, we had no problem... bizarre!

Bye,

Albert
