Southern Child - Day 7 1/12
Day 7 01/12
Position 1200:22*20' 50N 035* 55' 06W
Daily Run: 161Nm
Distance to Waypoint: 1506Nm
We finally got tropic temperatures and the trade winds (from the East) are
now fully setting in. The consumption of sun tan lotion has sky rocketed and the
amount of day time clothing has been dramatically reduced to a minimum.
Some of the crew have taken the opportunity to have a first "shower" in a week
(aka a bucket of salt water).
We've been accompanied by the Norwegian boat Ellida 6 throughout the day -
a boat Lars believes is berthed in the same marina as his own boat back in
Oslo, it sure is a small world.
Our landmark in the next couple of hours will be reaching the under 1500
mark, unfortunately the wind didn't play to our rules through the night and we
ended up zig zagging more than heading in a direct course to St. Lucia. We're
back on track now and hoping to make up the miles throughout today with the
spinnaker back up first thing this morning. After 1500 the next big milestone is
the half way mark which, fingers crossed, will be reached tomorrow!!! The event
will be celebrated with a party on deck and a beer or glass of wine to
celebrate!
Highlight of the day: Hoisting, flying, gybing, driving and
dropping the spinnaker like pros!
