Exody - Day 15 - 24th November - Rainbows, Roly Night and New Moon

Forgot to mention the fantastic rainbows that went with yesterday's squalls - some appearing close enough for us to search the anchor locker for the pot of gold! The squalls (or perhaps another distant weather system) left us - and the rest of the ARC+ fleet nearby - with a very uncomfortable sea with little sleep for the night - on Exody this was exacerbated by an annoying squeal from the self steering lines which a 2am concoction of squeezy, lithium grease and WD40 failed to cure!

Monday was a much better day of clear skies and consistent winds with only a very minor shower. Our days run at noon of 136 miles, with 1404 miles still to go took us within a few miles of the one third point after 5 days. The two 4th December birthday girls on board keep recalculating the ETA in St Lucia based on the latest Exody performance - ie if we keep going as we have in the first five days then we might get there on their day!

This evening the new moon was setting whilst we ate dinner (Kathy's excellent ratatouille) together in the cockpit after a superb sunset and we now look forward to its 'waxing' company for the rest of the crossing.

Realising that our crew were still on UK time, that we were on Cape Verde time and that we were heading for a further major time difference in St Lucia we set 'Exody time' today at UTC minus 2 hours and will shift it again twice before arrival so that we are in synch with sunsets/sunrises.

We have clocked that our towing generator and trailing fishing lines are not compatible and would risk an unholy mess of wrapped rope, impeller, line and hooks. So we are going to have a day off from the generator to allow Marian to do her stuff- watch this space!
