Firefly - Preparations under way for our next ocean passage

Sadly we said farewell to Susie, Barney and Juanita this morning as they fly back to the UK (we hope the weather has improved) Susie will be back in 7 weeks and will resume her adventure in Tahiti. David has arrived and now P P and D are busy preparing Firefly for the passage across the Pacific Ocean to the Marquesas in French Polynesia; a trip of just under 3000 miles if we go direct, however passages are rarely that straight forward so we expect to cover well over this distance to make best use of the winds and current. We have refueled (quite an experience) and re-provisioned. As Peter writes this Paul and David are diving under the hull to clean weed off the bottom which will add to our speed and improve Firefly's appearance.

Peter and David have just got back from separate cruises around the more remote islands and have seen some remarkable and unique sights. In future logs we will tell you all about it. If you want to get a glimpse scroll down to the bottom of our logs and you will see some of Peter's photos.

The next leg starts at noon tomorrow (Local time Sunday) just off Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz; we are not expecting much wind for the start but we hope enough to get us out to open sea and after 500nm should be enjoying more trade wind sailing.

Paul, David and Peter
