Lancelot II - Day 15 - Team sports

The wind has picked up and we are now pushing much faster towards St Lucia. Yesterday afternoon we sailed on a fast reach with Frankenstein flying in a steady 18 knots of wind. During the afternoon the wind shifted slightly which did not allow us to head straight on course to finish, we made the call to drop the spinnaker down and run on a direct course rather than flying the spinnaker through the night and risking damage to it. That proved to be a good call for us as the breeze continued to shift which made for a quick reaching sail with the Jib up. It was a great sail for our first watch as the moon was out and straight in front of us, it made the perfect runway to point the boat down and a beautiful sight as well as it set into the sea.

Dinner last night was another great meal, tuna pasta with all sorts of ingredients mixed in, I keep on looking at the amount of food we have left and am wondering why we have so much when we have eaten so well! After dinner the washing up is done in a big bowl in the cockpit, a truly team sport taking at least 1 to wash, 1 to dry, 1 to hold onto everything afterwards, and 1 to put away downstairs. I am also amazed that no knifes and forks have been thrown over the side yet after the washing up sessions, well.... apart from one bowl but we won’t talk about that.... will we Steve!

Knot work has been practiced over the last few days, Matt seems to have an amazing ability to tie every knot backwards, its almost as if he is left handed trying to do the knot right handed... however it may look its working and the crew seem to have mastered most of the basic knots now, I expect the boat to be fantastically tied up in St Lucia!

Its getting very hot now, Rob just came out of his cabin looking quite pleased saying “it’s only 29 degrees in the cabin, I thought it was hotter!”. On deck this morning the sun has been beating down on the first watch, Steve seems to think the temperature is in the mid 30’s and I do not disagree... bonus is it is great for topping up the suntan, I was starting to feel a little pale after a few days of cloud.

Still no fish which is slightly on the disappointing side, we have had 3 bites so far, 2 of which I was sure where going to come in but they seem to have worked out how to get of the hook this year. We will keep persisting, we have a few more days out here to catch something.

Hope all is well at home, missing you all and looking forwards to seeing people at Christmas now... (I have been told the John Lewis advert is very good but after being away for so long have not seen it!)

Love to all

Jacko
