Webster - Log 15: Groundhog Day

Thursday 5th December: Carried spinnaker all night as wind predominantly light NE (it has been flying for 48 hours or so now), but managing about 5kts towards our destination so making slow progress. Forecast is for much of the same for the next few days.

As daybreak came the sun came out and was hot. We all spent the morning reading and fishing, the latter to no avail excepting that we did catch a tiny something that wriggled itself off the hook but we would have thrown it back in any case.

1300 position 16 23'N 30 52'W.

The only real excitement today has been noting an element of chafe on the main halyard at the sheaf when we dropped the main to run under spinnaker alone. We took a piece of outer covering from a larger spare piece of rope and took out the main halyard completely to fit over the damaged area near the head then refitted the thing. A little nerve wracking as the consequences of losing the mouse line would have been a trip up the mast, but all done successfully.

As evening fell the wind started to drop again. A bit of Groundhog Day, as it has been doing this most evenings. So set up to fly the kite all night again! All well til 0430 when the guy jumped off the pole but no real issues, just a lot of flapping!

That's it today - not a lot going on........
