Party time

19 December 2013

Currently 204 ARC boats have now successfully crossed the finish line here in Rodney Bay with 18 boats still out at sea. Our most recent arrival was Sara Jane who has just crossed the line and after reporting some engine trouble has been safely towed into her slip by the ever-ready dock staff and local water taxi drivers. Today crews have been busy shopping and getting creative making costumes for the annual Fancy Dress party on Pigeon Island. This years theme is Vegas so we are hoping some interesting costumes at tonight’s event. Don’t miss out!

On Tuesday night, participants enjoyed a great evening at the IGY General Managers Cocktail Party held on the lawn within the marina complex. Over 700 crew attended the function, congregating under the large marquee where complimentary drinks and tapas style food was served. This was the first time so many crew were all together since arriving in Saint Lucia, so there was a real ‘buzz’ in the air as celebrations went on into the night. Thanks goes to Simon Bryan the Marina Manager at Rodney Bay Marina, and all his staff for all their hard work and support during the ARC 2013.

‘I’ve had a brilliant evening, it’s been so nice finally putting faces to names of boats I’ve been tracking whilst at sea’ – Peter Falla, Merryn.

Overnight on Wednesday, a special arrival came into Rodney Bay Marina as rumour has it, it was a ‘love boat’. One crew member onboard this ARC boat which goes nameless for now, got down on one knee once the boat was tied up and a rum punch had been consumed and proposed to his fiancée. She said yes! So we send out our heart felt congratulations to them.

Tonight, more opportunities for socialising as the annual costume party held at the Pigeon Island National Park. This party kicks off at 19:00 and goes on into the night. The Vegas theme this year will surely bring out some weird and wonderful costume ideas so we hope to see as many crews as possible at this night to remember.
