Arabella - RE: Wednesday 23 Nov

Report from Arabella 20.58 Wednesday 23 November 2011

Have covered a further 400 miles since last email. Connection from computer to sat phone has been broken. Will make daily calls to partners in turn to establish "all is well" and the message will be circulated to all.

Making good headway at present during the day, weather and sea condition good, under head sail only at night at present but hoping to pick up the pace later tonight.

Cooking skills are keeping all contented with hearty meals and they are all enjoying the experience.

Glad they have made contact and that all is well.

Looking forward to further updates,

Judith

Hi All,

Our current position at midday today is:-
100Nm south of G

ran Caneria
26 50.4 N
16 15.8 W
Wind speed 5 knts
SOG4knts
Sea state - flat
Temperature 31^C
Barometer 1020

We have had a bit of a change of crew – Graham decided not to come with us from Gran Canaria, so we are now only 4 – Ian, John, Peter and Deiniol.

Graham had been away for a long time already, having stayed with the boat in Las Palmas, and felt that another month or so would be too much. We are all grateful to Graham for looking after the boat and sorting provisions out whilst he was there.
It was a spectacular sight when all boats left Las Palmas, and it was amazing to be a part of it. There were spectators clinging to every inch of the breakwaters, music playing and water cannons at the start line.  The first few hours of sailing were good, and we had covered 50 miles by 10pm. The wind died down after that and we have been making slow progress since then, but it gives us a chance to admire the view – sea.

it is also an important day for Peter today being his retirement age birthday. We all helped him open his presents, and have had to listen to his Michael Buble CD ever since!

Next blog tomorrow.

Regards from all the crew of Arabella
