El Mundo - 3rd December

Last night I had a dream. I dreamt I was sailing my boat in the North Sea. I knew it was the North Sea because the sky was grey, grey, grey, the sea was grey, grey, grey, it was rough, rough, rough, it was windy, windy, windy with waves pouring over the bows and tumbling into the cockpit, there were flashes of lightning and it was raining harder than it has ever rained onany summer Bank Holiday in the UK - stair-rods comes to mind! But wait aminute; hold up; I am not asleep; this isn't a dream - this is ARC 2012 tradewinds sailing!!!!!!

I have never seen weather like it. When I getback I plan to take out a writ against God for unreasonable behaviour andcruelty to humans. Either that or he's having a laugh.

And yesterday; yesterday was unbelievable. OK the sun was shining but the seas were absolutely humungous!! They were huge, huge, huge; breathtaking and awe inspiring. There is our little boat in the midst of this massive, heaving, rolling, crashing, stunning environment - a sea bluer than youwould ever imagine, breaking waves whiter than you would ever imagine.

Funny it wasn't frightening - just extraordinary as the seas heap up astern of the boat and then break in submission to our presence. It was only when one goes below that the absolute enormity of it and where one is one suddenly hits one.......ssssssshhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttt!!!!!!!!aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! Help, help, help!!!!!

Actually,it is a priviledge to be here to witness it - and its certainly a priviledge to survive it as or course we shall. We have just had a report from a boat 60 miles ahead of us that is sailing in brilliant sunshine with 15 knots of breeze on the beam. I live in hope.

Now for those of you who read our blog yesterday, Rupert has informed me that I have got the name of the ride wrong at Thorpe Park. The ride is actually called Nemesis. Of course; silly me; how could I possibly forget the name of such a wonderful and enjoyable experience!! Rupert has also managed to get all the answers to El Mundo brain-teasers questions 1-4 correct. Pity he is too young for champagne!! Sorry son!

Aside from the weather things here are pretty much as before. We have just had an excellent lunch - Nick is Mother today - and the crew are dozing or keeping a weather eye to windward as the next bank of cloud builds up. Except there seems to be a fifth person aboard. He plays the guitar; JimiHendrix plus others. But I have searched throughout the boat and cannot locate him - or her - or it. None of us mortals aboard the boat play the guitar, the radio is off; the CD player is off, the DVD player is off, I-pads and I-pods are off, the SSB is off - and yet at night on watch I can hear this guitar playing; and I can also hear it in my cabin astern. Strange; he or she or it doesn't respond if I call out, although he or she or it did play an excellent rendition of extracts from Bohemian Rhapsody, which is one of my favourites. Is that a pink elephant flying by?

Now for today's El Mundo brain-teaser - this is getting exhausting. I hope we get to St Lucia soon so I can lie down in a dark room and give my brain a rest!

Question Number 5.

Two sons and two fathers plan to go and see Skyfall at their local cinema. They all see the same 8pm showing together and each has a seat in the front row, yet they had only reserved three tickets. Explain.

Are these getting too easy? Have fun.

As always love to all who matter ashore to Jonathan, Dee, Nick and Robert -we are looking forward to seeing you soon.

This is yacht El Mundo. Oooooovvvvvveeeeerrrrr aaannnnnndd out!
