Sumatra - Log Day 6: Trade Wind Time

People say sailing is 95% boredom and 5% sheer terror... I would say, for this trip, it's more like 85% relaxation and 15% discomfort, with the ratio swinging to 50/50 depending on when you ask : )

Lots of time to sit and read and think, however everybody is pretty tired from the night watches and our bodies are covered in bruises from rattling around down below decks...all par for the course I guess. All going well on board SY Sumatra, we are making decent progress and are starting to hit some warmer weather.

We had a very gusty, rolly night last night but it looks like the sea state will calm down a bit over the next few days as we hit the trade winds. We have switched to 2-person watches which means we have 3 hours on, 6 hours off instead of 4 on, 4 off - everybody is relishing the extra sleep. One crew member was enjoying his sleep so much last night that we had to wake him with the airhorn...twice.

That's all from us for now, we'll post again in a couple of days' time.

- Maddy from SY Sumatra
