Poespas - Day 3

Rally day 3

All is going relatively well. After some southing we have been running dead downwind under poled out genoa and main. Winds have been as forecast from the ENE at 20 to 25 knots, with occasional periods of 15 to 20 knots. Making good speeds of up to 9 knots, and the Canaries currents is helping our speed over ground. We are keen to use our Parasailor, but being Parasailor virgins, we are biding our time for slightly less wind, with 15 knots and 20 knots max true wind still ringing in our ears after our training session with that ever so nice chap from Parasailor.

Everyone has found their sea legs and we are managing to get our required sleep in spite of the rolling. Engaged the Watt&Sea hydrogenerator today, but for some reason it is not producing the promised 20 amps @ 24 volts into the ships batteries. Will have to do some electrical troubleshooting tomorrow with the good old multimeter tomorrow.

A Poem
Skips Orders

There was a young lad all at sea
While on watch he wanted to wee
So he wee'd in a handy old bucket
And o'er the side he did chuck it

Now, the choices are leeward and windward
Not a choice you may think that hard
But the lad was not fully developed
So he thought for a while… with his head

He'd been told to stay on the high side
When the skipper had been his guide
So decided the skipper was right
When he went for the bucket that night

Up on the high side he stood
Clipped on, cos he allways was good !
He heaved the old bucket as far as he could
But it landed not as far as it should

Still ……… in the water it was
Just following skips orders, of course
"whilst on watch if you want a wee"
"just bucket and Chuck it in the sea "

Day 3 Andy's view

A day still acclimatising to big yacht sailing. Roger continues to produce Poespas features from his top hat. Today it was the hydro generator. Someone has put the washing machine on and stand up hot showers at sea. Highlight was the landing of a 4kg dorado who fell victim to the cunningly disguised perros nobbler that well known Spanish lure. Still wriggling as he hit the pan with a fresh ginger, dry sherry and soy marinade courtesy of le chef. Fantastic.

A ssw trundle towards cape verde. Think I ll ask Roger for the keys to the snooker room...
