Blog 2 -  still day 1
Well here we are back in Las Palmas ( which you will know if you are following us on the ARC web site )
Events of the day so far :
Crew pleased to be on the water. Very slow start in very light winds – however Jacko (aided by his crew ) managed to get themselves in a great position  (we even sailed past Venomous!). Lots of discussion re the weather system and all seemed ok.

However 3 hours later – facing into the wind (guesting 25 – 30 knots ), reefs just put in, bouncy high seas, it was decided to call it a day ! Of our class circa 9 yachts have come back and some have transferred to cruising class. Coming back with the wind “ up our chuff “ Sam managed 12.4 knots (we will have to beat that!).
Well back in our berth , racing suspended for us, we can’t be assisted by anyone (only thing that has been allowed is use of onshore heads and showers). A number of other crews have spoken to us and Sam suggested putting up a sign re windy, bouncy seas and rather unpleasant.
So Jack is busy cooking pizza and everyone else is reading (good job we bought a few cans of beer this morning for the “just in case“).
Jacko’s latest view is leave our berth late Monday evening or the very early hours of Tuesday morning
All eight on board this evening so will be a tight squeeze!
Here’s to the morning and setting sail for St Lucia ( good news – we can motor, sail or motor sail to the position we suspended racing and start again from there  - we are just outside the “acceleration area “ an area in Gran Canaria known for good winds so all is looking good for down wind sailing tomorrow)
Regards to All that are following us
