Miramar - Miramar is off the dock!

After a week of hard work (which was preceded by a month of hard work!) Miramar is under way. With our time delay we had to say goodbye to Bill Read, our 4th crew member, so that he could return home for Thanksgiving family plans. Bill was a wealth of knowledge and a great help in the week we had to work and play together, and we're sorry that he was not able to enjoy the fruits of his hard labor. We were fortunate to find a great replacement in Sam Daly, who rushed down from DC at the last minute and is proving to be a great hand aboard.

As of 1200 AST on Sunday, November 11 we are at position 34 degrees 40.03 minutes N, 74 degrees 35.67 degrees W. It's beautiful sailing, with winds N/NE at 10-15. Our goal is to be across the Gulf Stream by dark, where we will continue to gain some easting overnight in preparation for the sled ride south.

We were disappointed to miss out on the group departure, and are sad that we can't wake Andy and Mia on arrival for our hand-delivered rum punch, but we are VERY happy to have missed out on the nasty weather that accompanied much of the fleet in the first few days of their trip. We are excited about the next few weeks of sailing and look forward to our first fish dinner. Quixote the Cat is so far unimpressed with the fishing skills of the boys from Alaska, so we're handing the lure-selection job off to the city folks on the crew.

More to follow....
