BRIZO - Thursday 20 Sept 2012

We ended up departing Bali on Wednesday, one day later than planned. After working hard on provisioning and getting the boat ready for the passage to Cocos Keeling, Corinne and the girls wanted to do one more day of sightseeing. They took a day trip to town and also to tour the rice paddies. The highlight of their day was lunch at an organic farm in the rice growing area.

Although we started out with light winds, after the first day at sea we have had very pleasant sailing conditions of 14-17 kts from the SE. Based on our current speed we expect to arrive at Christmas Island late Saturday or early Sunday. We are still trying to decide whether to stop at Christmas for 24 hours or proceed directly to Cocos. All of the other late starters decided not to stop; we would like to see the island (famous for red crabs and as a detention center for illegal immigrants into Australia) but are not sure if clearing in and out of customs, finding a mooring, launching the dinghy, etc will be worthwhile. Especially if all of the Rally boats have already departed by the time we arrive.
