BRIZO - 11 July 2012

After a very fast passage we arrived at Port Resolution late afternoon Monday, just before dark which always makes entering a new port that much easier. As we entered the anchorage we were hailed by the cocktail-hour crowd on ANASTASIA with a round of "Happy Birthday to You!" for Corinne who by then had fully recovered and was in partying-mode. We snagged a ride from WIND DANCER's dinghy and joined the crowd for cocktails as the sun fully set.

Port Resolution is a small settlement with no electricity but a significant population. They have a few solar panels and energy storage facilities but seem to mostly live a minimal, off-the-grid life. World Cruising Club has had a long association with the settlement as a result of previous World ARC stopovers and we have been warmly welcomed by the residents. A tradition of presenting useful gifts to the residents has been established by World ARC and a formal presentation is planned for Thursday. All Rally boats have been asked for surplus school supplies, clothing, tools, spare household goods and four toilet seats!

One of the Island's tourist attractions is what has been called "The world's most accessible active volcano". We all went to view the volcano last night and it was very impressive to view, spewing bursts of molten lava fragments high into the air every few minutes. Not everyone was comfortable with being so close to the crater's rim but we're pleased to report that everyone made it back to their boat unscathed.

Tonight we will be going to the one restaurant in the area for dinner. It is an open beach-side hut which can provide meals with 24 hour notice so that they can arrange for food to be brought in for preparation. The beach is very beautiful and we are looking forward to a unique dining experience!
