Freedom Found - Day 13 exploits in the Channel

Position 125 miles from Cowes, South of Plymouth @ 49 54.5N 04 11.5W @ 07:00 Friday. Well as predicted here we are faced with what side shall we slip into Cowes from? Shall we join with 1800 other yachts in the annual Round the Island Race or battle against the flow of yachts and possibly tide. No question I hear you ask keep on sailing. Timing is therefore critical and despite doing an average 6.5 overnight it's still tight to get through Needles both with tide and whilst the main RTIR fleet has not sailed. I think we need a few more hours to get a better eta at the Needles. We have had a very smooth ride up from the Azores with wind in our favour nearly all the way. Interesting positioning with tankers, container ships & fishing vessels but here we are now in the English Channel. Where this appears to be our roughest weather - large 16' breaking waves and 28 kts of wind being a! F7 last night. This has now abated and we have woken to nice blue sky's but for how long I wonder? Freedom Found is very stable in these adverse conditions being a long keeled boat and simply sailed through relatively undisturbed....... However, looking around the cabin those little monkeys must have been in overnight better tidy up before the queen's visit..... Well one final blog to let you know exact arrival time plus info on miles covered etc. talk soon :-)
