Scarlet Lady - Log Day 14 - Off to Povoa de Varzim

At just after 6am this morning, we set off for our first leg down the coast to Portugal.  We were advised to leave earlier than usual as there was a low front coming through and would be at its worst by early afternoon.  As we came out of Bayona, we were treated to a truly spectacular sunrise and calm seas.  There was no wind so we had to motor.

The winds soon picked up and we got both sails out. We were enjoying the sail until Steve noticed we had a small tear on our main sail, close to the leech line, so we had to furl it away to prevent further damage.  The wind increased to over 25 knots and we had both tide and wind against us so it was a fairly uncomfortable journey.  We soon decided to furl away the genoa too and motor the rest of the way.  We arrived at Povoa de Varzim at about 3.30pm.  The marina office kindly found us a piece of spare sail material and Scott of Katerina has offered to do the repair as he is a whizz with a sewing machine!

Just off for a shower now and then it is another Rally dinner tonight in the Yacht Club here.
