Samsara - But is there internet access?

May 26

We had a pretty rough night last night with the storm. All day it had rained but no real wind. Around 9-10pm the wind came up - to mid-30s or so. Waves.... Not. Fun. Sarah of course slept through the whole thing. Sam had a hard time going to sleep but then slept. I slept a bit but Lee didn't really sleep until morning. It was a bumpy ride. Samsara of course is just fine - the boat can handle it. Her people however don't enjoy such a ride. This morning we set sail and had a lovely 6 hour or so sail to Suwarrow.

We anchored - not easy as it's mostly very deep in the lagoon. As I was making lunch Sarah asked "is there internet access?" I said "it's a deserted island" - she said "I get that part, but is there internet access?" Um, no. We are looking forward to going to the beach/snorkeling, tomorrow but the girls are a little afraid as the cruising guide says there are a lot of sharks. We'll see......

Both Lee and I read "An Island to Oneself" on the way here - it's the book by Tom Neale, a New Zealander who lived here off and on from the 1950s to 1970s. Otherwise except for during WWII I think it's always been a deserted island (actually motus).

We had seared yellowfin tuna for lunch with rice. Off to make a chocolate cake. We have really made progress on school lessons and can finally start weeding out some books.....Time to celebrate that achievement.

Off to bake,
Pauline
