Sookie - Leg 2 Day 8 23rd May The lull is coming

The wind dropped to about 10 kts early this morning but due to our sailing angle we still managed to cover good ground.  Our batteries were in need of a boost and hot water was required for showering so we ran the engine up without propulsion for a couple of hours.  But as the day progressed our wind angle and strength also changed for the worse leaving us with 5kts of wind with variable direction.  This has now caused us to have to use our engine for propulsion and our previous use for charging could have been done at this same time.  Hey ho the "iron sail" is now fired up.  The forecast is for the weather to not change very much over the final few hundred miles.  Therefore we will probably and reluctantly have to rely on the engine more than not.  On the good side this gives us a good base to estimate and control our probable ETA in Horta.  The other advantage of calm conditions is being able to go to sleep on a relatively level platform to the hum of a warm engine. That is a long as we actually have enough fuel.  More time for fishing as we can also jus stop to haul in our catches.  No more fish since the BVI's.
