Glamorous Galah - French polynesia

Tom arrived on time and our charging issue was fixed by Giles. We slipped away from Tahiti and spent a wonderful couple of days at Moorea. Our overnight passage to Huahine was under a full moon with a moderate trade wind and low seas, but some of our passengers were unwell. We anchored off Fare village and headed straight out to Fiti reef for a surf. There were 20 out so I headed down to the left hander and surfed it with two Aussies! Gabriel and Daniel were from Byron but originally from my home town of Rye. They are cruising on a leopard catamaran with their father Simon.

Jane and I visited places we enjoyed on our honeymoon 30 years ago, which was fun. Tom got to know the crew of Zoe and tried an overnight hike up the hill.

It was a day passage to Raiatea where we tied up to the public dock. Bernie and I taxied to get the gas bottle filled, organised laundry and checked out the Moorings marina. We spent the next day snorkeling near a motu while Dave and Bernie surfed a gnarly left. A dinghy ride that evening took us to the Raiatea lodge hotel and a lovely dinner.

Next day we cruised around Ta'ha and lunched at a motu. We picked up a mooring near the western entrance for an early start to Bora Bora. Bernie was invited for drinks aboard a nearby charter cat, and returned with a box of food and beer! It was their last night so we got all their left overs.

A 5am start for a motor sail meant we were at the Mai Kai yacht club by 10am. Jane and I found the Matira Hotel right on the white sand beach, and made it our HQ. Bernie cycled around the island and Tom became the dinghy dock master.

We managed to win the dinghy race next day, and had a fun celebration that evening. Next day we spent a few hours refuelling and watering up ready for the Cook islands.

Today we will say our goodbyes to Barb, Jane and Tom as we start the next leg.

Our yellow brick transmitter is working again so you can watch our progress to Australia.

Ted
