Three days at sea….and….no wind
We are just
about to complete our third day at sea, destination Bermuda, and till now the
motor has been the principal actor. With the exception of a night on the second
day we have been motoring most of the time. We anticipated this and loaded
plenty of fuel, so we should be ok. The good news has been that the absence of
a big swell has allowed us to maintain an average of 6 kn on a minimum cruising
speed, so consumption has been very good, little over four liters an hour.
Fishing has
been poor with only one, fairly large, wahoo that has provided a distraction as
well as an excellent meal. And we have plenty left! The fishing is made
difficult by the presence of a lot of floating algae that foul the lure very
frequently.
Pino, our
newest crew member and a first timer on Atlantic crossings complains that he
expected strong seas and hurling winds and instead ….flat calm. I told him that
of the two extremes this is certainly the best!
Looking
forward, our Maxsea foresees wind beginning to pick up sometime tomorrow to
take us to Bermuda on a comfortable 15-20 kn from astern. We shall see, but so
far the prediction of the Maxsea has been quite accurate.
As it is now
customary on Ninfea, the food has been excellent. Marianto and Paolo have taken
turns to prepare finger licking meals, honored with a good bottle of wine from
our cellar. You are guessing right, Ninfea is not a dry boat. As a matter of fact we insist on a cocktail
hour at 6.00 pm (no repeats allowed) as we watch the sun go down in a kaleidoscope
of colors.
Nights have
been bright with a full moon that makes the sea sparkle. You should have
understood by now that we are having a great time! Ciao.

Amici nostril!!
Oggi è il nostro quarto giorno di navigazione-senza vento
però-ma con le giornate e le notti più belle del mondo! Naturalmente, senza il
nostro bimbo la cosa risulta un pelo difficile per noi ma, niente è perfetto e
lui deve andare a scuola in questi giorni dell’anno.
L’equipaggio non avrebbe potuto essere migliore: le risate
sono all’ordine del giorno, specialmente con la super personalità di Paolo che
fra la sua spontaneità, intelligenza e velocissimo senso dell’umorismo non fa
che tenerci con i denti sempre esposti al fresco, troppo ganzo. Da un’altra parte cucina e , normalmente, si
occupa della cena, io del pranzo.
Pino è fra le persone
più dolci che abbia mai conosciuto. E’ lavoratore, collaboratore e ama il mare
con pazzia e lo conosce molto bene.
Francesco, beh, uno
dei Warriors della traversata atlantica 2011, è diventato imprescindibile.
Il Capitano, come sempre, ci ha provveduto il pesce fresco,
un bel wahoo, malgrado questa zona sia
piena di alghe che si attaccano costantemente all’esca e rendono la pesca
