Nora Simrad - Day 2

No wind, and the wind that does not exist blows in the opposite direction of what we are going. We postponed the engine start as long as we could, but at last, right before our ulcers reopned, we rolled the furling, erected the bimini and turned the key. SY Nora is at present a powerboat (MS Nora). Not even having storm-soup for dinner helped.

While we were in the right mode, we adjusted/calibrated the instruments.(A previous crew obviously have turned up the speed-log speed to impress themselves with high speeds through water.) The manuals are written for people with an university degree in electronics only, but with a lot of bad language, we managed to improve the settings. Since the captain lived 8 years in Northen Norway, he is pretty good at swearing, so now the instruments are performing better.

We have seen a big pack of dolphins and some flyingfishes, we also have met three freigthers, and we can see three other yachts.

The weather as such is nice, and it was good to learn that back in Norway it is little more than zero degrees C.

Well, if we shall have a chance of getting Nora to Bermuda within the 12th, we have to power on, but we certainly have not enough diesel to take us all the way, so we must have a little wind soon ; and sailing is more fun than motoring. May be it should be considered to extend the time limit with one day to permit the fleet to do some (more) sailing?

But due to this powering, our accumulators are bouncing with energi, and we also have food, water and everything we need exept wind.

Reg Nora
