Brizo - BVI to Bermuda Day 3
Ok we
are all in the swing of it now and enjoying the passage. Last night was a
wonderful near full moon with clear skies for much of the night. It was so
bright that you needed no light to walk about the deck and the reflection off
the water and general seascape was mesmerising. The problem is a lack of wind
which followed us into day light – so it was motor on. As day 3 broke Murray
decided to go fishing and narrowly missed landing a Mahi Mahi, by a whisker.
I was not unhappy about this as I
was asleep and would no doubt have had to assist in preparing it for the
freezer. Light winds started the day and as predicted it was blowing directly
towards us. At times during the day it has been F3 to F4 easily enough to sail
but as its coming from the direction we are heading it means the tack angle and
Velocity Made Good towards Bermuda would be well below the 5 knots we need to
maintain to get to arrive and enjoy a few days there, before we depart again for
USA. So its engine throughout most of the day which is frustrating especially as
the forecast continues to look as though variations on the same theme will
persist on this passage.
As the
passage is 850nm it’s a distance that BriZo can undertake almost entirely under
iron sail (engine) if necessary but its hardly what we are here for so it’s a
balance between spending time in Bermuda and sailing as much as we can. We can
of course hope for a weather change.
Murray
is getting bored and is so desperate he is working his way through every episode
of Downton Abbey !
Regards
Stu
