Asteroid - D-Day 5th May

Well the day is here at last and it was a very, very quick week indeed since we first docked in Nanny Cay last Monday. The jobs as usual seemed to expand and extend beyond the time allocated but finally we are outside Nanny Cay just waiting on the start at 12 noon.

Besides working on the boat and provisioning (again!) we have had a great time here. The marina looks great with all the boats colourfully decorated. There are two other boats from Ireland - A Lady with Stephen and Aileen from Cork and Emilija with Noel and Brenda from Rush. We have enjoyed their company and the company of all the other participants at a final dinner on Wednesday night and at the enjoyable evening gatherings on Thursday and Friday night. The kids have enjoyed the pool, unfortunately only on Tuesday and Friday as the weather turned very "Irish" and we were rained out of it on Wednesday and Thursday but it was still wonderfully warm.

Myself and the girls attended the briefings on emergency procedures, flares and lifeboat demonstrations with Ciara fully participating in the lifeboat demonstration. She now firmly realises that the lifeboat really is a last resort - not very easy to get into from the water and that was in a swimming pool and when inside very close and uncomfortable.

Will have to sign off now as 12 noon is approaching fast. Wishing all the other participants a great week's sail and see you all in Bermuda.

Loretto
